Stories That Shape Us. Futures That Free Us.

Mission

To introduce audiences to the rich legacy of Black LGBTQIA+ storytelling across film, television, and theatre, while contributing to preservation of these works through digital tools and archival initiatives. We amplify the next generation of Black LGBTQIA+ storytellers by providing platforms and resources to share new narratives that reflect our history, present, and future.

Vision

We envision a thriving ecosystem where Black LGBTQIA+ stories are preserved, celebrated, and bountiful. We envision a world where storytellers are equitably resourced, widely recognized, and easily able to share their work freely and expansively across film, television, and theatre.

ABout FOREGROUND

Archiving & Preservation

Black LGBTQIA+ stories have long been pushed to the margins. We’re working to change that by building digital archives, amplifying films and filmmakers, and collaborating with organizations to ensure our stories are preserved and protected.

Emerging Storytellers

Foreground is committed to supporting the next generation of Black LGBTQIA+ storytellers. We hope to create a number of pathways for emerging voices to thrive.

Programs & Events

What began as BLACK, GAY, stuck at home has become a thriving hub for Black LGBTQIA+ community and conversation. We bring people together through year-round screenings and dialogue—both online and in person.

“I am so glad and incredibly GRATEFUL to join a space like BLACK, GAY, STUCK AT HOME and engage in some joy and connection from the comfort of my own home.”
